Ok, here's the idea:
1. Make an interest thread; this should outline your setting and system. This will give you a chance to get some feedback and find out if anyone might be interested in playing. Usage of BOLD, COLOR and LIST functions is encouraged for clarity.
2. Make a sign up thread; this should state your finalized setting and system, as well as what you are looking for from PC sign ups, aka character sheets. You will approve or ask people to revamp their characters here. Usage of BOLD, COLOR and LIST functions is encouraged for clarity.
3. Finally this is when you start the story! Make sure you check in often to keep the pace up and keep your PC's interested. Be sure to start a discussion thread. Make your threads clearly named; ie: Dungeon Run 1: The RP, and Dungeon Run 1: The Discussion.
4. Have fun! If you run into issues with players of GM's let and Admin or Mod know.
***Please be sure to always use proper spelling and grammar.***
A note on posting in "In Character" threads
- Posts must be in the Third Person Storybook style.
- Proper spelling, punctuation and grammar are to be used at all times. This means capital letters for names, start of sentences, and I's.
- Dialogue needs to be inside quotation marks, using a colored font to differentiate parties is encouraged.
- Interior Dialogue (ie: thoughts) need to be inside quotations and in italics.
- You may not create actions/reactions/thoughts/dialogue for any characters controlled by another player without their express permission.
- If you are involved in a PvP battle you may only describe your actions (these must be as detailed as possible to allow the other person to react appropriately), and your intentions behind them.
For instance:
PC1: Bob grew angry with George and decided that now was the time for George to learn his lesson. Bob quietly slipped up next to George, hopefully unnoticed, and threw a double fisted punch at the back of George's head.
PC2: George had not noticed Bob's attack, his attention was focused on the task at hand. So when Bob's fists connected he was completely unprepared and fell to his knees holding his head.
PC1: Bob was in a rage, he stood over George, shouting and beginning to kick at him.
"See! This is what you get for messing with me!"
PC2: George overcame his shock just in time to defend against Bob's kicks by grabbing his legs, intending to sweep him down to the ground with him
You will notice that Both PC1 & PC2 described what it was that they were doing themselves and what they intended their actions to do to the other person without actually stating the other person's reaction. Another issue with this takes us to our next item...
- God-modding is strictly prohibited. You character is fallible, if they have skills, they need to be in your character sheet. If you take actions that require skills or abilities that your PC does not have you will be asked once to edit it, after that you will be judged by the staff on whether or not you will be allowed to continue in the RP. Using Bob and George as an example; If George had some extra sensory junk going on, or was a trained fighter of note, he may have been more prepared for Bob's attack and could've countered it, but since he didn't, he went down. You need to keep in mind that your PC will not always land on top in a scuffle, and you need to have the maturity to take your knocks and use them for character development, and to improve your skills as a role-player.
These guidelines need to be followed, they will help you to express your ideas in a manner that is easily understood by other posters and will make role-plays on the whole run smoothly.
